Our first unit will be about the North American natives. First, we will need to understand how North America became populated by mapping the migration of the Siberians during the last ice age. Being able to understand that the Native Americans settled into different environments because of the natural resources available is a big concept. I will be asking them to think critically about the resources and the items they ate, built for shelter and made for clothes out of their environment. Next, we will be studying each of the eight cultural regions of the Native Americans by analyzing artifacts, pictures, maps and reading primary resources from the "Trail of Tears". This is a good unit to re-introduce how to take notes and to teach appropriate study skills to become more successful historians.
